rump’s Plan: U.S. Control Over Gaza and Palestinian Relocation Sparks Global Reaction
U.S. President Donald Trump’s Plan for Gaza
On Wednesday, the White House confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed the possibility of deploying U.S. military forces to Gaza as part of his plan for American control over the region. Caroline Leavitt, White House Press Secretary, stated that Trump believes the U.S. should assist in Gaza’s reconstruction to ensure regional stability, but this does not entail sending troops.
However, Trump also suggested the temporary relocation of Palestinians from Gaza to other regions to facilitate the area’s reconstruction. Just a day prior, Trump had proposed the permanent displacement of Palestinians, which has been met with global condemnation.
Global Reactions to Trump’s Statement
United Arab Emirates (UAE)
The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly rejected any attempts to force the displacement of Palestinians, emphasizing the need for respect for Palestinian rights. The Ministry reiterated that regional stability can only be achieved through a two-state solution and urged against actions that could undermine this goal.
European Union (EU)
The European Union reaffirmed its commitment to the two-state solution and emphasized that Gaza must be an integral part of a future Palestinian state. The EU called on all parties to contribute to peace efforts and to avoid actions that could hinder peace initiatives.
Hezbollah
Lebanese resistance group Hezbollah condemned Trump’s statement as “criminal” and a “support for illegal occupation.” It urged Gaza’s population to resist forced relocation and stand firm in defending their rights to their homeland.
United Nations Secretary-General
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres rejected the notion of forced displacement of Palestinians, describing it as a serious violation of international law. He called on all parties to pursue a peaceful and lasting solution and to refrain from making statements that could escalate tensions in the region.
Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)
The OIC strongly condemned Trump’s statement, calling it a reflection of illegal occupation and Israeli expansionism. The organization declared that no geographical or demographic changes in Palestinian territories would be accepted and reiterated the need for the termination of the Israeli occupation and the return of Palestinians, in line with UN resolutions.
The OIC also called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, ensuring Palestinians’ safe return to their homes and efforts toward Gaza’s economic recovery.
Change in Trump’s Policy?
On Tuesday, Trump proposed that the U.S. would gain control over war-torn Gaza and its economic development after the permanent relocation of Palestinians, marking a significant shift in U.S. policy.
Following this statement, during a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump described Gaza as a “devastated area” and called for the complete evacuation of Palestinians, a proposal strongly rejected by the international community.
Trump’s suggestion has raised questions about U.S. relations with its Middle Eastern allies, including Saudi Arabia, as the plan seems to contradict the principles of a two-state solution.
