The leaders of the world’s two largest economies are scheduled to meet next week, with their deeply strained trade relationship at the top of the agenda. According to a U.S. official, President Donald Trump plans to discuss trade relations extensively with his Chinese counterpart.
However, the meeting is overshadowed by growing friction. The U.S. official claimed that Washington is concerned about certain measures announced by China within the last two weeks, and these issues are likely to be raised during the talks.
In response, China has issued a sharp rebuke. The Chinese embassy stated that the U.S. is making “baseless allegations” against China regarding trade. The statement voiced strong opposition to the U.S. accusations and any investigative actions related to them.
In a clear sign of diplomatic tension ahead of the summit, Beijing has demanded that the U.S. “immediately correct its wrong behavior.”
