Kyiv / Washington —
U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to accept Russian President Vladimir Putin’s conditions for a ceasefire — including the transfer of the Donbas region to Russian control.
According to the Financial Times, Trump warned Zelensky that Putin had issued a stark ultimatum, threatening to “destroy Ukraine” if Kyiv refused to negotiate on Moscow’s terms.
The report claims that Trump told the Ukrainian leader,
“It’s time to stop the war at the current front line before more lives are lost.”
Zelensky, in his response, described the communication as “a significant but sensitive development,” though he stopped short of confirming whether Kyiv would comply with the proposal.
Putin recently reiterated that if Ukraine does not agree to Russia’s peace plan, Moscow will achieve its objectives through military means.
Analysts say Trump’s stance has sparked unease in Washington, with critics arguing that accepting such terms would effectively undermine Ukraine’s sovereignty and reward aggression.
The development comes as the war nears its third anniversary, leaving millions displaced and thousands dead, while global diplomatic efforts have so far failed to secure a lasting peace.
