President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday the deployment of an additional 1,500 US troops to the Mexican border, intensifying his crackdown on illegal immigration and diversity programs.
Trump halted the arrival of refugees and threatened to prosecute local authorities who fail to deport migrants.
In his return to office, Trump has pushed through right-wing measures, including ordering federal employees involved in diversity programs to be placed on paid leave immediately.
Trump also discussed his first phone call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who promised to increase trade to the United States.
In his latest round of appointments, Trump named fast food executive Andrew Puzder as the new US ambassador to the European Union and longtime bodyguard Sean Curran as the director of the security agency.
Trump mentioned that his predecessor, Joe Biden, had left him “a lot of work,” and raised the possibility of ending federal disaster aid and disbanding FEMA, as wildfires continue to ravage Los Angeles.
