President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he has no intentions of discontinuing Starlink services at the White House, though he might consider moving his Tesla vehicle off-site. This statement follows his weekend declaration that his relationship with Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of both companies, had ended.
“I may move the Tesla around a little bit, but I don’t think we’ll be doing that with Starlink. It’s a good service,” Trump informed reporters, referring to the satellite internet company, a unit of Musk’s SpaceX, which provides high-speed broadband access.
In March, Trump had publicly stated his purchase of a red Tesla Model S from Musk, who was then considered a close ally.
Last week, a White House official suggested that Trump might divest himself of the vehicle after a public dispute erupted between the two prominent figures. The Tesla was observed parked at the White House over the weekend.
On Saturday, Trump had indicated no intention of mending ties with Musk. However, on Monday, the president softened his stance, stating he would have no issue if Musk were to initiate contact.
“We had a good relationship, and I just wish him well,” Trump said. Musk responded to a video on X featuring Trump’s remarks with a heart emoji.
The prior week, Trump and Musk engaged in a series of public insults after the world’s wealthiest individual denounced Trump’s tax and spending bill as a “disgusting abomination.”
Musk’s vocal opposition has complicated Republican efforts to pass Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” through Congress, where the party holds narrow majorities in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Since the dispute began last Thursday, Musk has removed some social media posts critical of Trump, including one that appeared to signal support for impeaching the president.
Sources close to Musk have indicated that his anger has begun to subside, leading them to believe he may be open to repairing his relationship with Trump.
