In an unconventional move, the global football governing body, FIFA, has presented US President Donald Trump with its inaugural ‘FIFA Peace Prize.’ The award was bestowed upon Trump in recognition of his stated efforts to halt multiple conflicts, encourage dialogue, and reduce global tensions. The ceremony, notably held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., was reportedly organized at the request of President Trump.
Upon receiving the honor, President Donald Trump expressed profound delight, declaring the FIFA Peace Prize to be “one of the greatest honors” of his life. Speaking during a White House Cabinet meeting, Trump suggested he had attended the ceremony merely to participate, not for any reward, emphasizing that saving lives was far more important than receiving prizes.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented the award, commending Trump’s attempts to facilitate dialogue and de-escalate major disputes around the world. Trump took the opportunity to claim he had “ended eight wars” during his initial ten months in office, cementing the peace award as one of the greatest moments of his life. He further asserted that the US was not in a “good state” prior to his presidency but has now become the “most focused-on country in the world.”
