Google, the technology giant, has begun rolling out a significant and revolutionary update to its popular Google Translate app, where language translation will now be powered by the Gemini Artificial Intelligence (AI) model. This move is expected to dramatically enhance the accuracy and quality of translations.
According to the tech news website 9to5Google, Google has started introducing a new version of the Translate app based on Gemini AI. The goal of this new AI model is to provide more accurate and contextually relevant translations of text across different languages.
How the New Version Will Operate
The report indicates that in the new version, users will need to select the AI model located at the top of the app before starting a translation. Clicking there will reveal two new options:
- Fast Translations
- Advanced Translations
The Difference Between Fast and Advanced Modes
The distinction between these two modes is generally as follows:
| Mode | Description |
| Fast Mode | Translation will be done more rapidly. This mode will provide a literal translation, which may sometimes be inaccurate. |
| Advanced Mode | This mode will utilize Gemini AI for enhanced translation accuracy. The translation will be more refined and grammatically correct in a bookish language style. |
Current Availability
Currently, this new feature has only appeared on iOS devices (iPhones), while it is not yet available on Android devices. The report suggests that the Advanced Mode will initially only support translation for a limited pair of languages, including English and French and English and Spanish.
