At least four people, including two women, died and several others sustained injuries in separate road accidents across Karachi on Friday, according to reports from police and rescue officials.
In one incident at Korangi Crossing, a speeding water tanker collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to another individual. Angered by the collision, local residents set the water tanker ablaze before police could intervene.
In another tragic event near the Samundari Baba shrine in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, a passenger bus overturned, causing the deaths of three people. Rescue teams swiftly arrived at the scene and transported at least eight injured passengers to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. A rescue operation was ongoing at the time of this report.
On Quaidabad Bridge, a motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after being struck by a truck. Police reported that the truck driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle.
This recent series of road accidents underscores the increasing concerns regarding traffic safety and the regulation of heavy vehicles within Karachi.
The city has experienced a significant surge in fatal accidents involving buses, trucks, and dumpers this year.
These repeated tragedies have sparked public outrage, frequently leading to spontaneous protests and acts of arson. Earlier this month, dumper trucks were set on fire in North Karachi after one such vehicle tragically crushed two motorcyclists.
On April 13, a similar display of public anger occurred in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, where a vehicle involved in a fatal crash was torched by a mob. Police subsequently arrested the driver and multiple individuals for arson and related offenses.
