In a profoundly tragic incident, a laborer in Rahim Yar Khan administered poison to his three children before taking his own life on Monday, reportedly due to his inability to afford Eid attire for them, according to police. The police stated that the heartbreaking event occurred in the Sardar Garh Basti Haji Pir area of Rukanpur village.
The man, identified as a tractor trolley driver, had been unemployed and grappling with severe distress for an extended period, police sources revealed. In a desperate act, he allegedly gave poisonous pills to his two disabled sons and daughter, subsequently consuming them himself. Sheikh Zayed Hospital issued a statement confirming the deaths of the father and two children, while the daughter, who was undergoing treatment at the facility, is now reported to be out of danger.
Earlier this year, in February, a similar devastating tragedy unfolded in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swabi district. In that incident, a man reportedly took his own life after allegedly slaughtering his four children, including two minors. Police investigations indicated that the suspect, 42-year-old Saiful Islam, a tailor by profession, had been experiencing domestic difficulties for some time. His wife had departed a few days prior following a dispute, choosing to stay at her parents’ residence and leaving their four children with him.
Struggling with the immense burden of caring for his children, particularly his two-year-old daughter, Saiful Islam made repeated attempts to reconcile with his estranged wife, but she reportedly refused to return. In a state of desperation, he sent the youngest child to his wife via a relative, but the child was sent back. Overwhelmed by his perceived failure to provide for his children, he reportedly succumbed to profound distress, which ultimately led to the horrific act. Luqman Khan, an official from Rescue 1122, confirmed that the bodies were transferred to Yar Hussain Civil Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
