A devastating incident has occurred in the northern Italian province of South Tyrol, where five German climbers lost their lives after being struck by avalanches.
Rescue officials have confirmed that all bodies have now been recovered following the tragic events, which reportedly happened in two different locations in the mountainous region. Among the victims were a female climber and her father, who were on the expedition together.
According to Italian rescue authorities, the climbers were moving in separate groups at the time of the disaster. One group, consisting of three people, was completely swept away by an avalanche and all three died at the scene.
Survivors from the expeditions managed to alert emergency services, prompting an immediate and complex rescue operation. Authorities reported that the search was conducted with extreme caution, as there was a significant ongoing risk of further avalanches in the area.
