Jakarta: A horrific explosion at a high school mosque during Friday prayers in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, has resulted in at least 54 injuries, the majority of whom are students. The tragedy at a sacred place of worship has generated deep fear and distress within the local community.
According to police, the incident occurred at a public school mosque located within a naval compound in the Kelapa Gading area of North Jakarta. Eyewitnesses reported hearing two loud blasts just as the Friday sermon began, triggering immediate panic and stampede among the worshippers as smoke filled the mosque and terrified people rushed outside.
The Jakarta Police Chief confirmed that most of the injured sustained wounds from shrapnel, glass shards, and debris. While many received first aid and were discharged, around 20 students remain hospitalized, with the condition of three individuals reported as critical.
Police have not immediately confirmed the exact cause or nature of the explosions, and a full-scale investigation into the incident is ongoing.
