Tony Gilroy, the creative force behind “Rogue One” and “Andor,” has announced that after years immersed in the Star Wars universe, he plans to take a break from the franchise for a while to explore other projects.
“I think I’ve put in a good amount of work for the time being; I feel like I’d really like to dive into something different for a bit,” he shared with The Hollywood Reporter. “Never say never, but right now, the idea of going back and maybe directing a film is appealing.”
Reflecting on his work on “Andor,” he remarked, “I honestly don’t think it’s an overstatement to say that this is the most significant project I’ll likely ever have the opportunity to be a part of. It’s been a huge chapter in my life.”
“We essentially made eight movies in five years, when you look at how the episodes are structured – that’s really how we approached it,” Gilroy continued. “Being part of this universe, belonging to this incredible family of creatives, and contributing to a project that resonates so deeply with people is truly something special.”
“I can’t compare this experience to anything else in my life – it’s been a blessed decade of working on something that genuinely matters to so many people,” Tony concluded.
The second season of “Andor” is scheduled to begin airing on April 22nd.
