Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that the animated film ‘Forbidden’ is scheduled for release in China on August 9. According to Deadline, the animated movie is set to premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival.
The official logline for ‘Tom and Jerry: Forbidden Compass’ describes “the iconic cat-and-mouse duo as they accidentally travel through time in a museum. Along their journey, they meet a group of intriguing new companions and become involved in a final showdown with mysterious forces.”
Zhang Gang, the filmmaker behind No.7 Cherry Lane, served as the director, while Warner Bros. Pictures in China produced the movie. Wu Zhou Film Distribution Co. Ltd will handle its distribution.
Previously, Warner Bros. licensed the Tom and Jerry IP in Singapore, leading to the production of a series of shorts for Cartoon Network and HBO Go. Additionally, the studio also created cartoon shorts tailored for Japanese audiences. Tom and Jerry will commemorate their 85th anniversary this year. William Hanna and Joseph Barbera created the beloved animated cartoon series in 1940.
