Timothée Chalamet is being accused of “crossing the line” after several fans criticized the actor for “disrespecting” the late US President Jimmy Carter.
On the latest episode of Saturday Night Live, aired on January 25, the 29-year-old Wonka actor hosted the show, and while his hosting received widespread praise from fans, one joke landed him in controversy.
During the show, the Dune actor played the role of a bungee instructor, Nathaniel Latrine, guiding Heidi Gardner and her on-screen boyfriend Michael Longfellow through intense exercises.
At one point during the demonstration, which included swimming and flying motions, the actor shouted “Jimmy Carter!” leading the entire class to mimic dead figures while suspended on their bungee cords.
This act sparked outrage among fans, who slammed Timothée Chalamet for disrespecting the late President Carter.
One social media user expressed, “Was funny until that Jimmy Carter line. Totally disrespectful and out of line. And yes I have a sense of humor and love the show, but that was just horrible and too soon… I hope his family didn’t see that.”
Another wrote, “That sketch was actually pretty funny until the Jimmy Carter line.”
A third noted, “I hope his family didn’t see that.”
“Someone’s going to hell for that one,” wrote another user.
On the personal front, Timothée Chalamet has been dating Kylie Jenner since 2023.
