President-elect Donald Trump announced that he would restore TikTok’s service in the U.S., after which the platform began restoring its service on Sunday.
Trump stated at a rally, “Frankly, we have no choice. We have to save it,” and mentioned that the U.S. would seek a joint venture to restore the short-video sharing app, used by 170 million Americans.
TikTok informed users, “As a result of President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in the U.S.”
TikTok also issued a statement thanking Trump for providing necessary clarity to service providers, assuring them that no penalties would be imposed for providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans.
The Chinese Embassy in Washington accused the U.S. of unfairly suppressing TikTok.
Trump stated he would extend the period of time before the law’s prohibitions take effect by 90 days, allowing for a deal to protect national security.
