BEIJING, CHINA / SAN FRANCISCO, USA:
The globally dominant video-sharing platform TikTok has announced the introduction of a new feature designed to closely resemble Instagram’s successful ‘Broadcast Channels.’ In a move confirming its strategic expansion, TikTok announced on Thursday that the platform is rolling out a new tool named ‘Bulletin Board,’ specifically targeting creators and brands.
The ‘Bulletin Board’ is intended to allow creators and brands to share direct, one-to-many public messages with their followers. This new tool closely mirrors Instagram’s Broadcast Channels, which the Meta-owned application first launched in 2023.
Features and Eligibility: Similar to Instagram’s model, the TikTok ‘Bulletin Board’ will limit posting capabilities to the creators only. Followers will be restricted to giving emoji reactions, making the feature primarily a one-way communication channel. The tool supports various content formats, including text, image, and video posts, allowing creators to connect with their audiences in a more direct, dedicated space.
This new feature is initially being made available to creators who meet specific platform criteria, including being at least 18 years old and having 50,000 or more followers. This step by TikTok reflects its efforts to provide creators with more robust community-building tools, an initiative that is expected to intensify the competition with other rival social media applications.
