The New York Marathon 2025 concluded with a breathtakingly close finish in the men’s elite race, where the winner was decided by less than a second. Kenya’s Benson Kipruto claimed the title, crossing the 42-kilometer finish line in 2 hours, 8 minutes, and 9 seconds. In a dramatic photo-finish, his compatriot Alexander Mutiso was just steps behind him to take the runner-up position.
Kenyan dominance continued in the women’s category, as Hellen Obiri not only won the race but also set a new record with an impressive time of 2 hours, 19 minutes, and 51 seconds. Her competitor, Sharon Lokedi, finished 16 seconds later to secure second place.
Over 50,000 runners participated in the world-renowned event. In the wheelchair divisions, Marcel Hug of Switzerland won the men’s race, while American Susannah Scaroni claimed victory in the women’s race.
More than 20 Pakistani runners also participated in the marathon. Pakistani runner Sarah Tahoor completed the race in 3 hours and 34 minutes, earning the prestigious “Six Star Finisher” medal. Additionally, overseas Pakistani Ayesha Qamar finished with an impressive time of 3 hours and 16 minutes.
