He argued that Greenland’s strategic geographical location and natural resources are essential to the US. Trump also claimed that if the US does not take control of Greenland, a significant gap in national security will be created.
However, the Danish and Greenlandic governments have rejected the US claims, stating that only the people of Denmark and Greenland have the right to decide the future of their territory. Denmark has also announced plans to increase its military presence in Greenland, along with its allies.
Meanwhile, clashes between the Syrian government and Kurdish-led forces have led to a ceasefire agreement. The US Pentagon has ordered around 1,500 active-duty troops in Alaska to prepare for possible deployment to the region.
