Renowned Pakistani playwright Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, known as much for his successful dramas as for his controversial statements, is once again facing intense criticism on social media.
This time, the controversy surrounds his new drama, ‘Main Manto Nahi Hoon,’ which allegedly depicts a romantic relationship between a teacher and his student.
However, when questioned about the subject, Qamar dismissed the criticism in his characteristically aggressive style. He used harsh words for his critics, stating, “There is a difference between criticizing and barking. Criticism leads to correction.” This statement has been deemed offensive by many on social media.
Defending his drama’s content, the writer clarified that he has shown “love, not an affair.”
“I have shown love between a teacher and a student in the drama, and falling in love is not a crime. Both are unmarried and can legally marry,” he insisted.
Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar added that his characters are single and this is not an affair between a married teacher and his student.
He defended his script by citing real-life examples, saying, “The reality is that many female teachers have married their students, and I personally know many such people.”
He questioned why his characters, which he takes from society, are being criticized when 70-year-old men and women are also getting married in the same society.
