The suspected shooter, who was seen dancing and displaying a wad of cash shortly before ambushing a man after a dispute at a gas station in north Harris County, has been identified. Tyreq Anthoni Sanders, 20, is wanted for the murder of Gary Houston on December 20, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Houston, 30, was shot multiple times, possibly due to a verbal altercation, investigators revealed.
Video footage aired by on January 12 captured the suspect, wearing a yellow cap, appearing carefree inside a store on Aldine Bender as he danced while holding cash. Thirty minutes later, he was seen with a group of men near Houston’s car outside the store. Another video showed the suspect lurking in the shadows at the gate of Haverstock Hills apartments before emerging to open fire.
Following the broadcast, the HCSO received tips from witnesses who came forward to aid the investigation. Sanders, who was on probation for three felonies at the time of the shooting, is now a wanted fugitive.
Alanka Houston, the victim’s mother, expressed her anguish over her son’s death, emphasizing that he was shot in the back four times. She lamented the lack of action to apprehend Sanders, questioning why nobody intervened to remove him from the streets.
Minutes after the shooting, Gary Houston, critically injured, caused a chain-reaction collision that harmed an elderly woman. Alanka Houston expressed remorse for the accident, unable to comprehend that it may have stemmed from a mere argument.
