Good news for fans of classic variety shows! Disney+ has announced that The Muppet Show will return for a one-off special in 2026, featuring guest star Sabrina Carpenter. This new special will be a triumphant event to mark the 50th anniversary of the original show’s premiere.
According to the official Disney+ social media accounts, the new installment will feature fan favorites like Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, and Gonzo. The gang will return to the Muppet Theatre to put on a variety show filled with music, comedy, and, of course, “plenty of chaos.” Sabrina Carpenter will also serve as an executive producer for the special, as reported by Billboard.
For those who may not remember, The Muppet Show originally ran from 1976 to 1981 and was famous for its star-studded guest list, which included legends like Elton John, Paul Simon, Diana Ross, and Liza Minnelli.
Disney acquired the franchise in 2004, and the new special will be produced by The Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures.
