The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a one-year ban on Sri Lankan cricketer Praveen Jayawickrama over match-fixing allegations.
In a statement released by the ICC, it was announced that Jayawickrama violated anti-corruption laws and will not be allowed to play any form of cricket for a year. Additionally, the ICC has suspended him for six months.
The spinner faced allegations of match-fixing during the Sri Lankan league. According to the ICC, Jayawickrama has admitted to breaching the anti-corruption code.
Notably, Praveen Jayawickrama has played five One Day Internationals, five Tests, and five T20 matches for Sri Lanka.
Last month, former Sri Lankan opening batsman Dilip Samaraweera received a 20-year ban from coaching in Australia due to inappropriate behavior during his employment with Cricket Victoria. The ban was imposed after an investigation by Cricket Australia’s Integrity Department was complete.
