ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has adopted a stringent position on Pakistan’s political landscape, pointedly questioning the strategy of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He has asked whose interests the party is truly serving by persistently attacking the state and its institutions.
Speaking on a current affairs program, Chaudhry contrasted PTI’s protest tactics with the historical conduct of his own party, PML-N. He asserted that when PML-N leaders were denied meeting access to their leadership during detention, they never resorted to holding sit-ins or attempting to force their release from prisons.
The Federal Minister highlighted internal contradictions within PTI, stating that many central leaders are unwilling to fully support the statements made by the PTI founder. Citing Salman Akram Raja, Chaudhry mentioned that the founder’s controversial remarks are being publicly dismissed as personal opinions rather than official party policy, suggesting the leadership is struggling to carry the weight of its own narrative.
Chaudhry expressed serious reservations regarding the ongoing protests outside Adiala Jail. He noted that these scenes are creating instability and, crucially, adding to the difficulties faced by thousands of other inmates housed at the facility. He clarified that all meetings, including those between the PTI founder and his wife, must strictly adhere to the jail manual and the stipulated court orders.
The Minister concluded by dismissing any immediate possibility of a major nationwide movement, claiming that the fundamental reason for PTI’s internal disintegration is the unbearable burden of a political narrative that its leadership is failing to manage.
