A lawsuit filed by a Frisco woman against former Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott was settled before it could go to trial, a court official said Monday. Originally filed July 2021 in Collin County by Jennifer Gampper, the civil lawsuit sought more than $1 million in damages and claimed one of the former player’s dogs attacked and left her with “severe and permanent injuries.” ADVERTISEMENT Gampper’s attorney Christopher Hamilton confirmed in a written statement that the lawsuit has been “resolved.” He said the he cannot discuss the terms of the settlement. Elliott’s attorney did not immediately respond to multiple requests for comment. According to court records, the case was scheduled to go to a jury trial Monday in the 471st District Court. Todd Hill, court coordinator for Judge Andrea Bouressa, told The Dallas Morning News a settlement was reached before the case went to trial. One of the dogs, a Rottweiler, bit two people before Frisco Animal Services was able to secure them, police said. Elliott was issued three animal-at-large citations and the Rottweiler was placed in a mandatory 10-day quarantine for observation. The lawsuit alleged Elliott “was well aware that his dog had a propensity to bite and attack people” but that he did not make attempts to keep the animal safely confined. The lawsuit also named landscaper Pablo Vela and his business Perfect Synthetic Grass as defendants. The suit claims Vela, who was working at Elliott’s home, failed to close a gate thereby allowing the dog to escape. Related:Ezekiel Elliott carried Cowboys back into NFL spotlight. Dallas ran him into the ground ADVERTISEMENT As a result, Elliott’s neighbor, Gampper, was “viciously attacked,” the lawsuit said. Vela’s attorney could not be immediately reached for comment. Elliott was released by the Cowboys mid-March following a 2022 season with career lows in carries and yards. He is now a free agent. He was a three-time Pro Bowler and fourth pick overall in the 2016 draft. ADVERTISEMENT Dog days Elliott has been at the center of at least two other lawsuits involving his dogs. In 2020, a swimming-pool attendant sued him, claiming his Rottweiler and two bulldogs attacked her in March 2020 and left her in need of surgery. Police did not file charges in that incident, and Collin County court records indicate the woman dropped the lawsuit. In June 2021, an employee at a Prosper canine day care sued Elliott. Court records show the lawsuit is still pending. ADVERTISEMENT In February 2019, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott’s dog Icon faced a dangerous-dog hearing after it bit a Frisco woman who was trying to stop him from fighting her dog. The woman said in a 911 call the dog bit off her finger. Prescott and Frisco reached an agreement that banned Icon from the city while allowing Prescott to retain custody of the dog. Prescott did not face charges.
