HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A suspect was fatally shot by law enforcement after reportedly threatening people with a knife on Saturday, according to the Houston Police Department.
HPD responded to an assault-in-progress call around 11:24 a.m. in the 12600 block of Westheimer at Dairy Ashford, near a cemetery.
Authorities stated that the suspect, armed with a knife, was attempting to stab someone. Additional calls to HPD revealed that the suspect was also threatening other individuals at the scene.
Upon arrival, officers observed the suspect fleeing on foot across the street to a nearby cemetery. Despite efforts to deescalate the situation, the suspect ignored commands from law enforcement, police said.
An officer subsequently discharged his weapon, striking the knife-wielding man. The suspect, described as a Hispanic man in his early 20s, was pronounced dead.
No bystanders or victims were injured during the incident. HPD reported that three officers were involved in the shooting, but none sustained injuries.
