Indian cricket captain Suryakumar Yadav has become the subject of controversy after shaking hands with Mohsin Naqvi, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President and Pakistan’s Interior Minister, during the Asia Cup trophy unveiling. The handshake, which was captured at the event, quickly circulated on Indian media platforms and social networks. Many users voiced anger, calling the gesture inappropriate due to Naqvi’s political role and his past remarks against India.
One social media user wrote that shaking hands with Pakistan’s Interior Minister was “the height of shamelessness.” Another user added, “Suryakumar Yadav is shaking hands with the very man who threatened India after Operation Sindoor.” Indian news outlets also highlighted the handshake, questioning the captain’s decision in light of the tense bilateral relations between the two countries.
Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister, took charge as ACC President earlier this year.
