GENEVA, UNITED NATIONS:
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, has issued a scathing condemnation of the global community’s response to the severe violence and grave human rights abuses ongoing in El Fasher, Sudan. In an impassioned statement, he declared that the “horrific carnage in El Fasher is a stain on the conscience of the world,” reflecting a collective failure to intervene and prevent further bloodshed.
Addressing the dire situation in Sudan, Türk revealed that satellite imagery taken of the ground in El Fasher shows visible bloodstains from space, a shocking detail that powerfully illustrates the scale of the devastation and human tragedy unfolding on the ground.
Türk confirmed that his staff are actively working to collect evidence of violations, which may be utilized in future legal proceedings. He also highlighted that the International Criminal Court (ICC) is closely monitoring the situation in Sudan. These actions signal the UN’s firm resolve to hold those responsible for the violence accountable under international law.
The UN High Commissioner directed a stern warning to all parties involved in the conflict in El Fasher: “They should know that the world is watching their actions, and justice will ultimately prevail.” This statement is an attempt to exert international pressure on the warring factions, compelling them to adhere to human rights standards and halt the indiscriminate violence.
