A 21-year-old female student of a private university in Lahore attempted to take her own life by jumping from the second-floor rooftop. The student, Faisalabad native Fatima, was in a critical condition and was rushed to a nearby hospital. According to the hospital administration, Fatima has suffered severe injuries on her back, spine, and knees.
This incident occurred at the same university where another student, Muhammad Avis, had attempted to take his own life by jumping from the rooftop about two weeks ago. The university’s administration has been criticized by the students for their handling of the situation.
The police have confirmed that Fatima had been studying at the university since September, and her course was not yet complete. Fatima is a resident of Sheikhupura’s Narang Mandi and is a student of the De’ form, a type of educational program.
The police are investigating the case and have obtained footage from the university’s closed-circuit cameras to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The university has been shut down pending an investigation, and the students have gathered outside the university to protest.
In a related incident, the government has announced a new project, “Apni Chat, Apna Ghar,” to address the issue of harassment and exploitation of students, particularly girls, at educational institutions. The project aims to provide a safe and secure environment for students.
In other news, the Federal Board of Revenue has demoted a 16-grade officer to 14-grade due to alleged misconduct, including smoking and tampering with CCTV footage. A woman and her child were lured to a hospital under the pretext of medical treatment, where they were kidnapped by suspected abductors.
