On Wednesday, the Dallas Independent School District confirmed that a student was hospitalized and another was apprehended off-campus following a fight at Woodrow Wilson High School.
The altercation occurred Wednesday afternoon on the 100 block of S. Glasgow Drive.
According to a news release from Woodrow Wilson HS Principal Chandra Hooper-Barnett, school officials activated safety protocols and contacted emergency services after a student sustained “superficial wounds” during a fight with another student. The confrontation reportedly involved a small knife.
Initially, a Dallas ISD spokesperson informed NBC 5 that the fight occurred inside a campus building and resulted in “small cuts” to one individual.
The injured student was taken to a local hospital by paramedics and is expected to recover. Principal Hooper-Barnett confirmed that another student was taken into custody off-campus and will face disciplinary actions according to the Student Code of Conduct.
“The safety and security of our students and staff at Woodrow Wilson High School are our top priorities,” Hooper-Barnett stated in a message to the school community. “When issues of concern arise, we believe it is important to share them with you. While such news can be distressing, please know we are here to offer support.”
The school has made mental health professionals available to anyone needing assistance following the incident.
