Karachi:
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has warned citizens against a rising trend of banking scams, revealing how fraudsters deceive people by pretending to have mistakenly transferred money into their bank accounts.
According to SBP, scammers call potential victims claiming that they have “accidentally sent money” to their accounts. They then pressure or emotionally manipulate the person into returning the funds — even though no such transaction ever took place.
In an advisory shared on social media, the central bank cautioned citizens: “Do not fall for this trick. It’s a scam designed to steal your money.”
The SBP advised people to immediately verify their account transaction history and report such incidents to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) by calling 0800-25625.
It also reminded the public not to share personal or banking information with anyone over the phone, and to ignore suspicious calls or messages.
The central bank has also released an awareness video campaign across social media to educate citizens on protecting themselves from financial fraud.
