Dubai: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while addressing the World Governments Summit 2025, stated that Pakistan is at a crucial juncture of significant economic transformation.
Economic Achievements and Reforms
- Inflation has dropped to 2.4% in January 2025, marking the lowest level in nine years.
- The interest rate has been capped at 12%, making it easier for the private sector to borrow.
- The “Udaan Pakistan” initiative aims to improve five key sectors:
- Exports
- Digital economy
- Environmental protection
- Energy and infrastructure
- Equality and autonomy
Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development
The Prime Minister emphasized that Pakistan is committed to shifting 60% of its energy to clean sources by 2030, including:
- 50,000 MW wind energy capacity
- 13,000 MW additional hydropower capacity
- Tax exemptions and net metering to promote solar energy
Investment Opportunities and Trade Reforms
- Pakistan has a young population, with 70% of citizens being tech-savvy and under 30.
- Due to its strategic location, Pakistan serves as a crucial trade bridge between South and Central Asia.
- The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) has been established to facilitate investors.
Agricultural Reforms and Efficient Water Usage
- Solar-powered irrigation systems are being introduced.
- Strategies include adopting drip irrigation and drought-resistant crops.
- Modern agriculture aligned with climate change adaptation is underway.
Appeal for International Cooperation and Investment
The Prime Minister noted that Pakistan requires an investment of $100 billion for its energy projects. He emphasized the importance of environmental financing and technology sharing, inviting international investors to take advantage of transparent investment opportunities in Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Meeting with UAE President
The Prime Minister also met with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the ruler of Abu Dhabi and President of the UAE, where the two discussed:
- Enhancing trade and economic relations
- Current developments in the Middle East
- Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir was also present at the meeting
This meeting provided an opportunity to further strengthen the sustainable economic development and bilateral ties between the two countries.
