Ahead of the third season, Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has hinted that he has considered the possibility of a follow-up story. In an interview with The Korea Times, the director stated, “I have considered the idea of a spin-off. There were moments during production when I grew curious myself.”
This is not the first time the South Korean filmmaker has contemplated a continuation within the Squid Game universe. He previously mentioned, “If I make [a] spin-off, it will be a story happening between Season 1 and 2. There [was] a three-year gap between Season 1 and 2. So, I want to show what they did for those times.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Hwang confirmed that a fourth season is not planned, emphasizing that the upcoming third season will conclude the series. “After watching Season 3, some may think there’s room for a Season 4, while others may feel there’s no need for one.”
Squid Game‘s third season will be available for streaming on Netflix on June 27, 2025.
