Islamabad: On Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directive, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has established a special subcommittee to enhance the performance of Pakistan’s embassies abroad.
Members and First Meeting
- MNA Bilal Azhar Kayani has been appointed as the convener of the eight-member subcommittee.
- An official notification has been issued regarding the formation of the committee.
- The first meeting will be held tomorrow, chaired by Bilal Azhar Kayani.
Subcommittee Members:
- Additional Secretaries from the Ministries of Interior, Commerce, Finance, and Information & Broadcasting.
- Additional Secretaries from the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Joint Secretary from the Cabinet Division’s Institutional Reforms Cell.
Objectives and Responsibilities
The subcommittee will review the overall performance, structure, and challenges faced by Pakistani embassies.
- Pakistani ambassadors will be summoned individually for their input and suggestions.
- The political and economic efforts of embassies will be assessed.
- The nature of work and staffing levels at embassies will be evaluated.
- Proposals for enhancing embassy performance and reforms according to current needs will be suggested.
- The committee will define national objectives and strategies for embassies.
- A mechanism to assess the performance of embassies and diplomats will be developed.
Cooperation and Future Steps
- The committee may seek assistance from experts or diplomatic figures for guidance.
- Pakistani ambassadors abroad have been instructed to fully cooperate with the subcommittee.
