Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has confirmed that the appointment of the opposition leader will be finalized by Thursday. Following a meeting with Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Kundi and Chief Minister Punjab Suhail Anwar Khan, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq expressed hope that a consensus would be reached on the opposition leader’s appointment.
The PTI’s Chief Whip Malik Amir Dogar wrote a letter to the Speaker, stating that the opposition had already agreed on MQM-P’s Mahmood Khan Achakzai as their leader. The letter further mentioned that the opposition leader’s seat was currently vacant and that the opposition had the right to elect their leader under democratic traditions. Malik Amir Dogar emphasized that the PTI had no groupings, and Mahmood Khan Achakzai was the party’s legitimate opposition leader.
PTI leader Asad Umar expressed hope that the delay in the appointment of the opposition leader would be minimal. In another development, number plates bearing the names of prominent figures including ex-President Asif Ali Zardari, ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and PTI founder Imran Khan will be auctioned off.
