On Wednesday, Sony announced a substantial price increase for the PlayStation 5 console within the United States of America.
The new PlayStation 5 price, effective starting Thursday, August 21, will see a $50 rise across the US. Sony conveyed this increase in a PlayStation blog post, stating the rationale: “Like many companies worldwide, we’re confronting a challenging economic environment. Consequently, we have made the difficult decision to elevate the suggested retail price of PS5 consoles in the U.S. beginning August 21.” The company clarified, “The recommended retail prices for PlayStation 5 accessories will remain unchanged, and we have no other price adjustments to announce for additional markets.”
Currently, the Standard PlayStation 5 is listed at $499.99, the Digital Edition at $449.99, and the PS5 Pro at $699.99. The revised pricing structure for the console models is as follows:
This price adjustment for the popular gaming console follows US President Donald Trump’s declaration of extensive tariffs on goods imported from China and Japan. The move is not isolated, as Sony had previously raised console prices in several European nations in April, and in May, Xbox also increased the cost of its consoles and accessories across the US, Europe, and Australia.
