Houston, Texas (KTRK) — Fans of a professional football player from a Houston team are disappointed as they claim he has failed to fulfill agreements after they purchased his old gear online.
Before his stint with the Houston Roughnecks in the UFL, Mark Thompson played for the University of Florida Gators. He had been selling some of his old Gator gear online.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Jan. 22, Thompson wrote, “Selling Gator Football memorabilia if you see something you want let me know I’ll DM you and we can work out a price. Everything in this chest is extra, I’ve already framed and put what mattered the most to me in safe places.” The post included a video showcasing a box of cleats, socks, and jerseys for sale.
Fans who sent Thompson money for his old gear now allege that he did not deliver what they paid for.
Eric Joyner from Plant City, Florida, shared direct messages showing he reached a deal with Thompson in January for two pairs of receiver gloves, totaling $350. Despite paying, Joyner claims he never received the items.
Joshua Rittenour from Pensacola made two deals with Thompson, paying $570 via PayPal and $130 through CashApp, but says he never received the items.
Paul Lively from Tampa agreed to pay Thompson $560 for specific items but only received a fraction of what was promised.
When contacted, Thompson responded in April, stating he was handling the situation but was slow to resolve it.
Despite Thompson’s reassurances, the fans just want their money back. Joyner was refunded $350 after media involvement, while Rittenour received $570 through PayPal but is still waiting for a refund for the $130 sent via CashApp. Lively is yet to be refunded.
The Houston Roughnecks, upon inquiry, issued a statement through the United Football League, acknowledging the complaints and requesting immediate action from Thompson to address them.
