Lahore: Authorities in Punjab have reported significant improvement in air quality following the successful use of smog guns in a pilot project aimed at reducing air pollution.
According to the Environmental Protection Force, the trial in Lahore’s Kahna area reduced the Air Quality Index (AQI) from 666 to 170 — a 70 percent improvement. Officials said this was the first formal test of anti-smog guns in the province, and the results indicated a noticeable decrease in particulate matter and suspended dust.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz congratulated the Environmental Protection Force for the achievement, calling it a “major step forward” in combating smog.
“Alhamdulillah, Punjab is leading in public service and the use of modern technology,” she said in a statement.
Environmental experts say the technology could help mitigate Lahore’s chronic smog problem if implemented consistently, though they emphasize that reducing industrial emissions and managing traffic pollution will remain essential to sustaining clean air.
