Internet users across Pakistan are experiencing slower connectivity after a fault was reported in submarine internet cables near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, as confirmed by Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) on Saturday.
According to a PTCL spokesperson, the fault has partially impacted the SMW4 (South East Asia–Middle East–Western Europe 4) and IMEWE (India–Middle East–Western Europe) cable systems. This disruption is expected to cause a slight reduction in service quality during peak hours.
PTCL’s Response
PTCL stated that its international partners are working to resolve the issue as a priority. In the meantime, the company’s local teams are securing alternative bandwidth to ensure internet services continue to run smoothly across the country.
A spokesperson for PTCL Group said, “We are grateful to our customers for their patience. Efforts are being made to minimize the impact of the submarine cable fault.”
So far, internet users have reported slower browsing and streaming speeds, especially in the evening when demand is high. The company has assured the public that services will stabilize once the repair work on the damaged cable is completed.
