Pakistani security forces on Friday shot down six more Indian drones in various districts of Punjab, bringing the total number of downed enemy drones to 77, according to security and military sources.
Officials said the drones — all reportedly of Israeli make — were intercepted and neutralised in coordinated responses in Okara, Pakpattan, and Vehari districts. Of the six destroyed on Thursday, four were downed in Okara, while one each was intercepted in Pakpattan and Vehari.
A statement issued by security officials said the drones had entered Pakistani territory and were being monitored via radar before being engaged and destroyed. “Our air defence system has the capability to detect and track even small drones,” said a military spokesperson, adding that the response followed standard operational protocols, especially in areas close to urban populations and flight paths of commercial airlines.
Local police confirmed that the wreckage of the drones fell into agricultural lands near densely populated villages — specifically in areas adjoining villages 154L and 114L — but fortunately, no casualties were reported in Thursday’s incidents.
“The drones were immediately tracked and shot down upon entering our airspace. Timely action by the forces ensured the safety of civilian lives,” a police official said, adding that security personnel had secured the crash sites and collected the debris for further analysis.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General said the enemy drones were being monitored round-the-clock. “Whenever such activity is observed, it is swiftly responded to under a defined operational framework. Our radar systems maintain continuous surveillance,” he stated.
The latest incidents follow a similar operation earlier this week, in which another Indian drone was brought down in Jassar village of Narowal district. According to eyewitness accounts, that drone had been spotted at approximately 9:45am before it was destroyed by a rocket fired by Pakistani forces.
On Thursday, India had reportedly carried out a series of drone attacks in multiple regions across Pakistan. Military officials stated that 25 Indian drones were shot down during that incursion. However, those attacks resulted in the martyrdom of three civilians, while several others, including four Pakistani soldiers, sustained injuries.
