Minimum Fare Raised from Rs50 to Rs80
The Sindh Transport Department has announced a 60% increase in the fares for the People’s Bus Service across the province. The revised fares will take effect from February 1, 2025, raising concerns among passengers already struggling with inflation.
Under the new fare structure, the minimum fare has been increased from Rs50 to Rs80. For distances exceeding 15 kilometers, the fare will now be Rs120, a significant jump from the previous flat rate of Rs50.
The decision has drawn criticism from commuters, many of whom rely on the People’s Bus Service for affordable daily transportation. Passengers have expressed their frustration, stating that the fare hike will add to their financial challenges during these tough economic times.
One concerned passenger remarked, “Earlier, I used to travel for Rs50, but now I’ll have to pay Rs120 for the same journey. This is an additional burden, especially in this period of rising prices.”
The People’s Bus Service has long been regarded as a cost-effective and comfortable mode of transport for the residents of Sindh. However, the recent fare hike is expected to reduce its affordability, particularly for low-income groups.
