In a scathing critique of society, Sindh High Court Chief Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput has lamented the erosion of moral and cultural values, saying that awareness has given way to chaos in the society over the decades. Addressing a seminar in Karachi, the Chief Justice expressed his reservations about the notion that men are superior to women, saying that the Constitution and law explicitly state that women’s rights are an integral part of human rights. Article 25, he pointed out, prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender, and it is not acceptable to grant men superiority over women solely based on their gender.
The Chief Justice emphasized that the country’s economic and social policies can only be sustainable when women’s participation is made mandatory. He argued that ignoring half of the population in the process of development is not a viable solution, and that ensuring women’s involvement in all spheres under the Constitution is the responsibility of the state. “Without the participation of women, the journey that has begun will only lead to further regression,” he warned.
The Chief Justice also highlighted the importance of changing societal attitudes, particularly in the home, to combat the exploitation of women. “The first exploitation of women begins at home, and the change in societal attitudes must start from there,” he said. Meanwhile, police officials reported that five police officials were killed in a shooting incident in Karachi, while three others, including the gunman’s husband, were injured.

Motorway police spokesperson said that three people were also injured in the incident and were shifted to the hospital. Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Azam Khan Swati said that the services of the Christian community are a beacon of hope for our collective progress.

The auction of 75% of Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) shares is scheduled to take place today.
