The Governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, has expressed his concerns about the tendency of people to focus on pointing fingers rather than working together to address the issue at hand. In a press conference in Karachi, he stated that he has not been criticizing the provincial government, and instead called for a collective effort to learn from the tragic incident of the fire at the Gul Plaza. The Sindh government has announced compensation for the victims, which is a positive step, according to Kamran Tessori.
Mohammad Raheem, the brother of Omar Nabeel, who went missing in the fire, spoke to Geo News about the devastating details of the incident. He emphasized the need to resolve the Gul Plaza issue, but without making accusations. “We have become too focused on pointing fingers at each other,” he said. “I am not criticizing the Sindh government.”
Kamran Tessori further stated that if a violent and deadly plaza like the one that burned down in Karachi is built or allowed to exist, it needs to be stopped. “We need to create jobs and businesses, but where will the lives come from?” he asked. He also suggested that the government should help the traders who were affected by the fire by relocating them to the empty parking plaza.
Meanwhile, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori has announced that he will investigate the management of the Gul Plaza and will ask the management’s president about the functioning of the plaza. He also emphasized the need to provide compensation to the victims and their families.
The rescue operation at the scene of the fire is still ongoing, with 48 people having undergone post-mortem examination, 86 still missing, and possible bodies being recovered from the rubble. A 10-year-old girl was injured in a tiger attack in the nearby village of Bhekiwal Pand, and was shifted to a hospital.
A private member bill was moved in the National Assembly, proposing a 10-year imprisonment and a fine of five million rupees for driving under the influence and causing death. A suspected militant was killed in a police encounter in Islamabad, and a pistol, a rifle, and a motorcycle were recovered from his possession.
