On Thursday, the Sindh government declared the dates for summer holidays for all educational institutions, which are scheduled to run from June 1 to July 31.
A notification, obtained by Geo News, stated: “In pursuance of the decision taken in the meeting of the sub-committee of the steering committee on education held on November 28, 2024, the summer vacation for all public and private educational institutions under the administrative control of the School Education & Literacy Department shall be observed with effect from June 1 to July 31 for the academic session 2025.”
Meanwhile, in Punjab, rising temperatures have led the provincial government to initiate summer vacations early for all private and public schools, officials informed AFP. The holidays will now commence on May 28, instead of the previously scheduled June 1.
Class timings have also been adjusted, with all educational institutes instructed to conclude their day two hours earlier, at 11:30 AM, “due to a constant heatwave,” according to a notification from the education department.
Last year, schools in Punjab, which cater to millions of children, were also closed for a week in May due to excessive heat. Additionally, they experienced several weeks of closure in November because of high levels of toxic smog that affected multiple cities.
