HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Showers are popping up in this warm and humid air mass.
The atmosphere is moistening up ahead a weak front arriving Thursday morning.
By sunrise Thursday it will be mostly dry with the front pushing deeper into the Gulf of Mexico. That will drop the humidity for the rest of Thursday and Friday. One exception to this will be for the counties that touch Matagorda Bay southwest of Houston. The front won’t push all the way through there, allowing for enough moisture to bring scattered downpours again on Thursday afternoon.
Ragweed pollen remains extremely high and will likely remain there until we can get some widespread rain to help wash the pollen away.
What are we expecting for the weekend?
On Saturday the Gulf breeze will push sticky air back into Houston, but it should stay mostly dry. Temperatures will start off in the upper 60s and warm to near 90 in the afternoon. Sunday brings back a chance for scattered thunderstorms as a stronger cool front pushes into Texas. Some of the remnant moisture from Tropical Storm Karl may get into the mix, increasing the chances for widespread rainfall that we really need.
How cool will it get behind this front?
Once the clouds and rain clear out behind the front, we should enjoy some delightful fall days with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s! We now also predict at least one morning with a low in the 40s, which hasn’t happened in Houston since April 9th.
What’s happening in the tropics?
Tropical Storm Karl is spinning over the Bay of Campeche. For the very latest check out our daily tropical update.
