Karachi, Pakistan – Senior Pakistani actress and former radio announcer Perveen Akbar, who has been a part of the entertainment industry since 1969, shared interesting and emotional revelations about her private life and her strict mother-in-law during a recent program. Her disclosures highlight the traditional dynamics of the mother-in-law/daughter-in-law relationship and the importance of tolerance in married life.
Perveen Akbar, who enjoys a harmonious married life and whose children, Faizan Sheikh and Rabiya Kulsoom, are also involved in showbiz, is a frequent guest on morning shows where she speaks candidly about her life experiences.
During one program, she discussed her mother-in-law’s firm demeanor: “We saw the best daughter-in-law in our mother; mothers are an ideal for their daughters.” However, she admitted that her mother-in-law had a strict temperament, similar to her own grandmother.
Perveen Akbar described her mother-in-law as a ‘typical Punjabi woman’ who was a little shrewd. She stated that if a woman is a housewife and desires a successful marriage, certain things must be endured.
She also shared an example of how her mother-in-law would create an issue over minor things. For instance: “When I enrolled my elder son in the first grade at the age of three, she created a big fuss, asking why I sent him to school so early?” She explained that she tried to reason with her mother-in-law, but the latter would also tell her husband (the CM’s son) to “make me understand.” These revelations show the kind of family pressures the actress had to manage while maintaining a successful career and family life.
