According to federal officials, a shooting on Wednesday at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office in Dallas resulted in one death and multiple injuries. The shooter also died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Local media reported that police responded to calls about the shooting at the office in northwest Dallas at approximately 7:30 a.m. local time.
Kristi Noem, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, posted on X that there were multiple injuries and fatalities, and the shooter was deceased.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance replied to Noem’s post on X, stating, “The obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop. I’m praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families.”
According to ICE, the field office is a facility where individuals are processed and where agents determine whether to release or detain them. Fox News, citing sources from the Dallas Police Department, reported that the victims were being led into the building for processing and repatriation.
The Dallas Police Department stated on X that two people were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds, one victim died at the scene, and the suspect is deceased.
Footage from local news outlets showed a significant law enforcement presence surrounding the facility. The local ABC affiliate WFAA reported, citing sources, that the shooter was found dead on the roof of a nearby building.
ICE’s acting Director, Todd Lyons, told CNN that “preliminary information suggests a possible sniper.” Some media accounts indicated that at least some of the victims were in critical condition. When contacted by Reuters, a Dallas police spokesman said, “This is an active scene and information is limited.”
