Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has expressed disappointment over India’s decision not to travel to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy, emphasizing the significance of India-Pakistan cricket encounters for fans worldwide.
Speaking during the ICC Champions Trophy Sydney tour, Watson highlighted how India-Pakistan matches create a unique atmosphere in international cricket. “These encounters are always a special occasion, much like the rivalry Australia shares with England,” Watson said.
Drawing from his personal experience of playing in Pakistan during the 2019 Pakistan Super League, Watson recalled how special it was to witness the passion of Pakistani cricket fans. “Having the opportunity to play in Pakistan was special for me. Witnessing the enthusiasm of Pakistani cricket fans and how they enjoy the game was remarkable,” he reflected.
Watson emphasized the broader significance of Pakistan hosting an ICC event, noting that local fans have had limited opportunities to watch top-tier international cricket live. “Hosting the Champions Trophy in Pakistan is significant for the entire nation. Fans will have the chance to see world-class stars in action, which will undoubtedly be a special moment for them,” he stated.
The tournament marks Pakistan’s first major ICC event hosting opportunity in recent years, representing a significant milestone for cricket in the region.
