Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has asserted that cricket should be kept distinct from politics, following India’s decision not to play against Pakistan Champions in the 2025 World Championship of Legends (WCL).
Speaking on Sunday, Afridi remarked: ‘Players should remain good ambassadors of cricket.’ He conveyed his disappointment regarding the situation, noting that the Indian players had traveled to England and even participated in training sessions before ultimately withdrawing from the match scheduled against Pakistan.
“It would have been better if the Indian players had informed organizers in advance about their unwillingness to face Pakistan Champions,” he stated.
Afridi further commented: “The situation changed suddenly. The entire scenario shifted within a single day. Just one player’s stance altered everything.”
“Even the Indian players themselves were disappointed with how matters unfolded,” Afridi added.
