Punjab Police’s Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Azhar Naveed has been implicated in a fraud case involving 3.4 crores rupees. The inquiry report revealed that the DSP and his son Naeel Khan had taken money from a citizen, Adnan Hassan, but failed to return it. The citizen had submitted a complaint stating that they were threatened with dire consequences if the money was not returned.
The inquiry report has held the DSP responsible for the fraud. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Internal Accountability has forwarded the report to senior authorities. Azhar Naveed is posted at the Prime Minister’s House Security. On the other hand, Azhar Naveed claimed that the case is related to a partnership between family members and business partners, and that their reputation is being tarnished by false allegations and negative propaganda.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed solidarity with the families of those who lost their lives and called for better medical facilities for the injured. In a separate development, the provincial government of Sindh has ordered an investigation into the fire safety arrangements of a high-rise building in Karachi.
