Former Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Barrister Sultan Mahmood, passed away on Sunday at the age of 71 in Islamabad. He was undergoing treatment for liver cancer in the capital city. According to the spokesperson of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir government, the funeral prayer of the late Barrister Sultan Mahmood will be offered at 4:00 pm on Monday at the Mirpur Cricket Stadium.
The Azad Jammu and Kashmir government has announced a three-day mourning period following the death of the senior politician. It is worth mentioning that Barrister Sultan Mahmood was elected as the president of Azad Jammu and Kashmir in 2021. He also served as the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir from 1996 to 2001.
It is known that Barrister Sultan Mahmood joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in 2015. However, he faced his first-ever electoral defeat in the 2016 general election. Nevertheless, he was re-elected as a member of the legislative assembly in 2019 from the Mirpur constituency.
Meanwhile, the President of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan (JUI-P), Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, has announced a sit-in protest outside the Sindh Assembly from February 14. The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sahibzada Sibgatullah, has expressed his condemnation of the recent terrorist attacks in Balochistan. He has also announced that he will present the case of the province’s problems to the Prime Minister.
The Governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, has stated that the tax collection in Karachi is ongoing, and the provincial government is not receiving even 5% of the tax collected in the city. The Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Fawad Chaudhry, has condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Balochistan, stating that India’s proxy war is a source of threat to the region.
The President of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Sindh, Haleem Adil Sheikh, has demanded an end to the raids on the homes of PTI leaders and workers across the province. The PPP leader, Palwasha Khan, has also condemned the terrorist attack in Balochistan, stating that it is a planned conspiracy by India and its Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
The Chairman of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Dr. Khalid Mahmood Siddiqui, has stated that the law and order situation in Karachi is being deliberately allowed to deteriorate by the authorities. The Federal Minister of State for Interior, Senator Talal Chaudhry, has stated that the Indian security forces are being trained across the border and are involved in subversive activities.
In other news, the Lahore police have held a meeting to discuss the security arrangements for the Basant festivities. The President of the Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Dr. Khalid Mahmood Siddiqui, has condemned the use of women and children by the terrorists in their operations.
Meanwhile, a group of tourists has arrived in Moenjodaro via a safari train from Karachi. The tourists had left Karachi the previous day.
The Chief Minister of Balochistan, Sardar Fareedullah Begthi, has stated that 145 terrorists have been killed in the recent operations, and their bodies are in the custody of the authorities. He has also stated that the terrorists have killed five women and three children in the city of Gawadar and are trying to impose their ideology through coercion.
The Federal Minister of Interior, Moosa Nagvi, the Chief Minister of Balochistan, Sardar Fareedullah Begthi, and the Commander of the Corps of Engineers of Balochistan have visited the CMH Quetta to visit the injured police personnel in the recent terrorist attack. They have also stated that the terrorists are being funded by India.
During their visit, the delegation will meet with the high-ranking officials in the state of Gujarat, India.
